ESC Region 13 is excited to announce the launch of our Esports Program, positioning ourselves as a leader in Central Texas. Esports is an innovative and engaging way to bring together students, foster teamwork, and promote digital literacy. As we grow this program, we aim to offer professional development, support, and competitive opportunities for schools across our region.
Esports Network Meetings
To support educators, coaches, and students, we are hosting an Esports Network Meeting Series. This series will provide a comprehensive look at how to integrate Esports into the classroom, how to coach an Esports team, and best practices for managing tournaments.
Inaugural Esports Tournament
Our inaugural Esports tournament on February 22nd marked the start of a series of competitive opportunities for students throughout Central Texas. The tournament featured intense competitions in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1v1) and Rocket League (3v3), drawing 45 student competitors and over 100 enthusiastic attendees. Collaborators and supporters of the event included Texas Scholastic Esports Federation (TexSEF), Texas Army National Guard, and SHI.
Five students from Region 13 schools, Eastside (2), LBJ (1), and Cedars International (2), qualified for the state championship in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the Rocket League event, Westlake earned their spot at the state level.
The event was a fun-filled day, brimming with competition and sportsmanship. Both students and spectators appreciated the in-person experience, which many found more engaging than online tournaments. One Westlake student shared during the trophy presentation, “I’ve played a lot of online tournaments, but nothing compared to the atmosphere of our in-person tournament.”
