Civics Training Programs build administrator and teacher expertise by strengthening the skills and knowledge Texas educators need to cultivate informed American patriotism in students and lead close study of the founding documents of the United States and Texas.
Texas Education Agency’s Civics Curriculum for K-12 Texas teachers and administrators includes the following areas:
- Social studies essential knowledge and skills related to civic knowledge
- Guided classroom discussions of current events
- Classroom simulations and models of governmental and democratic processes
- Media literacy skills for evaluating online information
- Strategies for incorporating civics instruction into subject areas other than social studies
Texas Senate Bill 3 (SB-3) requires that each school district and open-enrollment charter school ensure every campus has at least one teacher and one principal who has attended an official civics training program.
