Early Childhood Teachers wear many hats in the classroom. One of the most important, and often times underdeveloped, is math facilitator. One way we can support more math instruction in early childhood classrooms is through small group instruction.

Small group time enables teachers to meet the needs of their diverse learners. With specific time to engage and support students in new learning discoveries, small group instruction builds teacher-to-student, and peer-to-peer relationships, all while building language.

In this training, Early Childhood Teachers will:

  • study current research about why early math is important
  • explore how to develop a math environment that supports all young learners using a variety of learning structures
  • look closely at the role of small groups within that instruction
  • practice how to evaluate activities to understand how they can create meaningful learning opportunities
