Nature and Needs of G/T Students
In this course, participants will learn about the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics of gifted students. Participants will contribute ideas to the discussion board, share their own experiences, and research related information.
Assessing the Needs of G/T Students
In this course, participants will gain an understanding of how to implement Texas law and the State Board of Education rule concerning the assessment and identification of gifted and talented students. Participants will also learn about methods of assessment that help accurately identify the needs of gifted students in a district.
Differentiating Instruction for G/T Students
In this course, participants will learn about traditional, as well as newly developed, methods of reaching gifted students. Participants will learn what differentiation truly means and what it should look like for gifted students. Participants will also learn what is required by Texas law for the design of curricula for gifted students and best instructional practices to be followed.
Designing Curriculum for G/T Students
In this course, participants will learn about the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP) and other innovative and practical ways to design appropriately challenging curricula for gifted students.
Setting Standards for Success of G/T Students
In this course, participants learn about assessment used to measure student growth and the quality of a district's services for gifted/talented students. Participants will learn about the Texas Performance Standards Project, and how districts can use it to ensure that services are helping gifted students reach the goals established in the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.
